J. Cole - Work Out (Song & Critique)
On wednesday June 15th, Cole put out his first single "Work Out" from his anticipated debut album. Had to give my personal opinion about the record.
Very few people deny J. Cole's talent. As a matter of fact at one point him and Drake were the topic of discussion in barbershops and hip-hop web forums. But now it seems Cole is has taken a backseat to Drake, since Drake's release of his highly anticipated debut which was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed. Still with the release of his last Mixtape "Friday Night Lights" I felt he was still in that discussion.
This record sounds great: Kanye sample, typical subject matter for a commercial hip-hop record. But it sounds like this record wasn't the record Cole wanted to release. I felt as if Cole held back and dumbed it down a lil' on this record, which of course you have to do sometimes. Its just that with previous records "Who Dat", "Blow Up" and "In the Morning", this single just doesn't seem to compare to those. I hope the 2nd single is better or else it's gonna be a Cold World rather than a "Cole" World.

Jhene Aiko - sailing soul(s) Mixtape
Jhene has been doing her thing underground for a minute. A refreshing voice in R&B. She wowed me with this release though. Dope song writing, great production and soothing yet atmospheric vocals.
Here is one of her joints that happens to be my favorite songs from the mixape.

Drake - Marvin's Room
Say what you want about Drake. This dude creates an atmosphere in his music. Credit his production (Noah "Forty"), the way he delivers or the his ability to relate to the listener.
Now we all have been victim to the "Drunk Text" or "Drunk phone call" to an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend. Drake captures this situation through this new release "Marvin's Room". Made sure I listened to it a couple times before I posted it.
